| Landmark Survey Uncovers Reasons Why Women Are Not Able to Properly Address Their Skin Care Issues
The condition of a woman's skin has a serious impact on her self-esteem, according to results from a new landmark skin care survey announced today sponsored by Obagi Medical Products, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMPI - News), a leader in physician-dispensed topical aesthetic and therapeutic skin health systems. The survey, entitled "Women and Skincare: A Quest For Real Results," was developed to identify women's attitudes, behaviors and desires when it comes to skin health. Further, even though the majority of respondents feel a skin care professional is the best source for skin care information, they continue to seek solutions without the advice of a medical skincare professional. The majority of women (84%) have at least one issue with their skin. This peaks among women in their 40s, who report having four skin care issues.
How To ... Use chocolate for your skin
Anyone who still thinks chocolate is just for eating -- and maybe drinking -- is well behind the times. Just talk with friends or browse the Internet: People are using chocolate to make soap, finger paint, candles and even sculptures. And chocolate skin-care products, for use in spas and at home, also have made their way into popular culture. For many raw foodies, it's not just about feeling great. They contend that people can get the benefit of chocolate's healthful properties by putting it on their skin. "It didn't make sense to be pure on the inside, eating a diet that was 90 percent raw, and then put all these products with preservatives on my skin," said Lisa Lennon, 40, an artist and co-founder of U.K.-based Raw Gaia, which has a Raw Chocolate Face Pack. The company specializes in organic and raw skin care products.
Skin cancer campaign in Gib
Skin Cancer continues to be a common and serious illness in Gibraltar. Knowing that prevention is always better than cure, the GHA in collaboration with others has once again this year embarked on the SMART Campaign. Aesop: Fabled beauty
Aesop is one of those beauty brands that however big it gets, you feel you've discovered it. It's not nearly as small as it may seem – at least not in the Southern Hemisphere, where it has 11 stores in Australia. There are a further nine in Asia, a year-old boutique in Paris and another opening shortly in London's Mayfair. And yet, crucially, it still feels like a little gem of a beauty line – full of life-changing skin care, body care and hair care that really delivers. Catherine Deneuve took Yves Saint Laurent for a swing round Aesop's New York store; they are just two of the many high-profile fans of the line. Angela Creasy is the buyer who seized on Aesop and brought it to Liberty at the end of 2006, where it has subsequently flourished. "An innate and genuine interest in a variety of cultural topics has helped define this cult beauty brand," Creasy says.
Nepal on track in reducing infant mortality
Achham,Nepal Mathura Shahi, 30, presses the timer button and counts the breath intake of Sajjana, a month-old baby snuggling in her grandfather's arms. Shahi assures 79-year-old Setu Shahi that hes doing a fine job babysitting. Tell your daughter-in-law that she does not need to worry about the baby. Her breathing is normal, she says. But do remind her to see that the little one is to be breastfed on time. Special Reports
In a place just a few miles from sandy beaches and soaring skyscrapers, white stone villas and sky-blue swimming pools, it seems the epitome of irony and injustice that over 1.5 million people would be subjected to drinking sewage-contaminated water. When there is such a fine line bordering wealth and poverty, privilege and need, how unsettling to realize that just a stone's throw away, mothers and fathers must nourish their families with poison. As if the occupier could not find one more creative way to torment his victim. The greatest outrage is that such a reality is the decided policy of the Israeli government. It is decried by the most prominent human rights and humanitarian groups throughout the world, and yet it is increasingly enhanced by Israel and shamelessly backed and justified by the US.
Jeff Ball: Slow-release fertilizer best benefits lawn soil
It's decision time again. Every year we all have to face more than a dozen piles of bags of lawn fertilizer. How to decide? Every brand has different NPK numbers, like 29-6-10. One bag says it covers 5,000 square feet of lawn and another, which looks the same size, says it covers 15,000 square feet. The prices for a bag range from $10 to $40. How to compare prices with all those variables? Guess what? The price is not the issue you should be worried about. It is the form of nitrogen and how much of it is water insoluble that is the biggest concern. You calculate percentage of water insoluble nitrogen (WIN) by looking to the back of the bag and reading the figures for the amount of nitrogen in that bag. You want the WIN to be at least 50 percent of all the nitrogen in the bag.
Bonita cleaning lady develops allergen-free cleaning solution
For 47-year-old Joan Gerber, every day is Earth Day. She's had a fondness for nature ever since she was a child living the simple life on a farm in Ontario. “I was always a nature kid," she said, pushing back her short, no-fuss hair, the color of wet Gulf beaches. She would take her red wagon, a shovel, a juice box and other supplies to a shaded ditch under a nearby bridge. She'd spend her spare time trying to catch minnows and successfully catching crawfish from the drainage ditch. When farmers started using chemical pesticides, she said, her “little haven turned into a slimy muck. It stunk. It died. Even though it was drainage, it was its own little eco-system." Gerber is one of many local participants in the Sierra Club Calusa Group's annual Earth Day celebration at Koreshan Park in Estero, which takes place Saturday.
Check out books at the library, be ready for the perfect storm
Wind blowing, sirens wailing, taking cover in the bathtub, lights flicker and go offdarkness, sounds of things hitting other things, then us finally going outside. Very large tree limb blocking breezeway, inches from window, gaping holes on sides of buildings, numerous chimney-like structures either broken and lying on their side on the roofs or lying scattered about in between apartments. Pieces of debris of all types scattered about. We later found out that it was not a tornado but very strong winds, but those strong winds were scary enough in the moments that they did their damage. My husband and I walked around the area of our apartment complex and the neighboring complex with a couple other neighbors whom we had just met to look at the damage and also see if anyone needed any help. (There is a lot to be said about getting to know your neighbors because if something happens in your neighborhood then you can all work together to help make sure things are alright)The neighboring complex had been hit just as hard but they also had uprooted trees that blocked parking lot entrances and exits along with tree limbs breaking windows.
